The farm kid's soul is a hard thing to shake, writes Justin Isherwood
in the first chapter of this book. Growing up on a farm meant an
appreciation of nature that city dwellers rarely have. It meant
developing close relationships with animals, then eating one of them
for supper. Among the themes explored by Isherwood are farm winters,
moldy hay, rattlesnake patrol, cat immortality and tall cow pies.
