A War of Their Own
The Krueger Affair

by Jerry Buss

Look inside the book!

It was more than ironic that the Krueger brothers -- Ennis, Frank, Leslie and Lewis -- chose to defend their pacifist beliefs during World War I with guns blazing. The aftermath of a dramatic shootout at Withee, Wisconsin left two men dead and several wounded as well as an ugly legacy of government intervention gone awry.

The Krueger brothers are part of a rich Wisconsin tradition of independent lifestyles and vigilantism that includes the Posse Comitatus and the Tigerton tax protests of the 1980s.

Jerry Buss of Madison was born in Withee, a few miles from the Krueger homestead. The famous case was a subject of childhood curiosity and dinner table stories. A War of Their Own is his first book. Besides writing, his other hobbies including hunting and flying model airplanes.
